This lakeside session at Mohonk Mountain House took place in the heart of summer, and blue was the perfect choice. It complemented the natural surroundings so beautifully—helping this sweet family stand out while still blending effortlessly with the stunning scenery. The subtle stripes added just the right touch of interest and gave the whole look a hint of coastal charm!

This gorgeous golden hour session took place beneath the wispy willow trees in New Paltz, NY. This adorable family coordinated their blues beautifully, striking the perfect balance between casual and dressy. Their oldest daughter’s floral dress—with touches of pink, yellow, and blue—added the sweetest pop of color and tied everything together perfectly.

We headed up to this beautiful hilltop spot in Gardiner, NY with the prettiest mountain views, and I have to say—blue and tan might just be my new favorite combo. The colors popped so perfectly against the grassy paths and that soft mountain backdrop. It all came together in such a relaxed, timeless way that felt effortless and totally fitting for this sweet family.

Why Blue Just Works for Family Photos

Looking for a color that’s always flattering and never goes out of style? Blue is one of my go-to recommendations for a reason! Here's why it’s such a popular (and photogenic!) choice:

  • It looks beautiful in every season

Whether you're surrounded by spring blossoms, summer greens, autumn leaves, or snowy scenes—blue always complements the setting without clashing.

  • Pairs effortlessly with neutrals and pastels

Soft creams, tans, blush pinks, or even light sage all look gorgeous next to blue, making it super versatile when coordinating outfits.

  • It works great in group photos

From families to extended sessions, blue helps tie everyone together without feeling too matchy-matchy. Different shades still feel cohesive!

  • Timeless and elegant

Blue never feels too trendy or overdone. It photographs beautifully and brings a calm, classic feel to your images.

  • So many style options

Whether you want something soft and flowy, casual and comfy, or a little more dressed up—blue is easy to find in every cut and fabric.

I hope you found this post inspiring and helpful! My goal is always to help you skip the outfit stress and feel truly excited for your session—and the memories you're about to make.
